Buying A Memory Foam Mattress - Things To Know

If you like to have the flexibility of the usual coil spring mattress coupled with the much needed firmness of a carpeted floor to your back, the answer is a memory foam mattress. While providing the cushioning effect to your body, a memory foam matters also extends a firm support to your back as it has the capacity to conform to the contours of your body.

Its capacity to become soft when warm and hard on being cold, enables it to provide the needed support to the desired points on your body. A memory foam mattress most affects the naturally sticking-out parts of your body like shoulders, elbows, hips, ankles, knees, ribs and relieves of pains and aches often experienced in the mornings. You will experience that the morning numbness is considerably reduced because of an improved circulation of blood.

However, before you invest in your first memory foam mattress you should understand that all memory foam mattresses don't have the same features and there are differences of its thickness, density and quality. Though generally the density may be anywhere between 2.5 to 5 pounds a cubic foot, in certain cases it may go up to 5.3 or even more. As the manufacturing of a dense mattress needs more raw material and different technology, it is more expensive.

Denser mattresses are firmer and respond better to those who are thinner with more protruding bone structures, while mattresses that are less dense are softer and tend to do a better job at cradling curvier forms. Those not in the habit of shifting around in bed will find it better to have a denser mattress. On the other hand, a not so dense design is more suited for those who tend to keep shifting in bed. Do keep in mind that your tossing and turning may not actually be your natural way of sleeping, but rather a result of inadequate bedding. Mid range density in the region of four pound enables a mattress to accommodate most of the sleepers with varying sleeping styles. Low-density memory foam mattresses (2.5-3.5 pounds per cubic foot) can sometimes "bottom out" and usually aren't worth the lower price.

The major producers of this product have a tight control over their retail process. However, if you go through a smaller dealer or retailer, either at a brick-and-mortar location or online, you might be able to get the salesperson to throw in a free memory foam pillow, free shipping, or some other additional value to seal the deal.

If you are determined to save expense while shopping for a new memory foam mattress, you will need to buy a mattress with lower density. Well, you can't expect it to have the quality and comfort of a denser mattress, yet it will be a good improvement over the discomforts of bedsprings to which your body had been treated for so long.
