Virginia Bed and Breakfast Celebrates 20 Years of Hospitality

Planning a vacation can sometimes seem like an arduous task, figuring out where to stay and what to see. At the Holladay House Bed and Breakfast, guests can have it all - a location near to dozens of famous sites and attractions, the warmth and hospitality of ace innkeepers, gourmet breakfasts and the special ambiance one can only find at a historic inn.

Run by native Virginians, Sam and Sharon Elswick, the Holladay House is located along Main Street in historic downtown Orange, Virginia. Now in its 20th year as an inn, the Holladay House is within a short drive of dozens of exciting venues. James Madison's impressive home, Montpelier, is only three miles from the inn. Thomas Jefferson's and James Monroe's home are also close by, and all three homes offer tours and special events throughout the year. In addition, the area is full of Revolutionary and Civil War sites.

The area around Holladay House boasts plenty of other activities, as well. Many local vineyards offer tours and tasting, and more than half a million people visit Virginia wineries each year, sampling some of the nation's top vintages. Orange offers a variety of antique shops, galleries and interesting boutiques. Each year the area is host to several musical events, including an opera festival at Ash-Lawn Highland and several bluegrass festivals. Hiking, biking, hot air ballooning, fishing and horseback riding are just a few of activities available for outdoor enthusiasts, and the innkeepers at Holladay House are always happy to help their guests plan their day.

The Holladay House dates to 1830 and this historic Virginia Inn is one of the stops along the Journey Through Hallowed Ground. Created by the National Register of Historic Places, this journey includes 65 historic sites along Virginia Route 15. Civil War soldiers skirmished along Main Street in front of the home, and such famous men as Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee have passed by its front door.

The common areas have been restored to reflect the historic ambiance of this early 19th century Virginia inn. Guest rooms are romantic, decorated with antiques but including modern amenities such as cable TVs with DVD players, wireless internet and CD players. Some rooms include a fireplace or double whirlpool tub. Each room has a private bath stocked with hypoallergenic bath products and soft, fluffy towels. The two-course breakfast, featuring local ingredients, is a special occasion, presented in the elegant dining room on a table set with fine china. Throughout the day, the innkeepers provide coffee, tea and freshly baked goodies.

Customize your stay at the Holladay House with one of the innkeepers' special add-on packages. Your innkeepers can pack a picnic basket for you to take along on one of your day trips. An in-room massage can be arranged. The unique Babymoon Package is perfect for expectant parents and includes a fruit, cheese and chocolate tray with sparkling cider, a pregnancy massage, and a gift certificate for a local restaurant. Whatever options you choose, the innkeepers will make your stay at this Virginia bed and breakfast a memorable one.
