How You Can Save Money While Traveling By RV Or Travel Trailer

We all appreciate having an extra few bucks around. It makes us feel good, especially when the last few years have been so hard on so many people. While people have cut back on vacations, or changed the way they vacation, they are still getting out there.

This has resulted in a lot of travel trailer sales. People are really appreciating the travel trailer in the current economy. Owning a travel trailer lets people vacation on a dime. Well..not literally, but figuratively the statement is accurate. The "vacation" has changed a lot in recent years.

In order to "enjoy" life without causing undue financial stress a lot of people are staying closer to home (ergo the "staycation" phrase that is so popular nowadays), vacationing less often but for longer periods of time, taking day trips rather than week long vacations, and combining family events with vacations. And it's working. Many have successfully figured out how to vacation on a drastically decreased budget. It can be done. One thing that can be done when the vacation involves a road trip of any sort, or a travel trailer or recreational vehicle in particular, is to economize when it comes to gas.

It's important to be aware of what might be draining your fuel tank as well as ways of driving that can improve gas mileage.

Here are Six Tips to Bring Down Fuel Prices when heading out on vacation with a travel trailer or when driving an RV/motorhome.

1. Fast accelerations take up more gas, as does constantly varying the speed you're driving. Best bet is to use your cruise control if you have one. If not, keep an eye on your speed and try to keep it consistent.

2. Stay within the speed limit. Driving 75 mph instead of 85 mph will save you money. It's up to you how fast you choose to go, but this will help reduce your gas bills.

3. When possible, use the overdrive gears. They help.

4. The wind blowing in through the windows may feel refreshing, but it causes a drag in your vehicle that will slow you down and waste fuel.

5. Choose to drive at times when there won't be a lot of traffic or idling. This means avoiding the 8-10 and 4-6 hours in most major cities. Use your phone apps to check the best route for the time you're driving.

6. If you are idling for longer than a few minutes...you are just sitting there burning money! Turn off your engine.

By using these tips, you'll see a difference in gas costs. There's no sense in wasting money unnecessarily when traveling. Use the extra money for a night out on the town or splurge on a good restaurant.
