What should you know before hitting the road in your Class C RV on the Alaska Highway?
Your Class C RV is ideal for the trip down the Alaska (Alcan) Highway. The duration of the route is 1,523 miles, so you will want to make sure you have the structure of your Class C RV checked out before hitting the road. You want your Class C RV to be in tip-top condition. Make sure you or a professional check the brakes, the engine, and all other components of your Class C RV. Don?t forget to pack first aid supplies. You also want to make sure you have cash and/or appropriate financial provisions in case of emergency. Some remote locations will not accept credit cards.
The highway is in a good condition, but allow 7 to 10 days to take the trip. Be aware of parts of the highway that are dusty and beware of frost heaves.
What time of year should I take my Class C RV on this route?
The most popular time of year to travel in your Class C RV down the Alaska Highway is between the month of June and the month of August. You will need to be ready for all types of weather, both sunny and hot, as well as chilly, cool weather. Rain, too. Check the temperatures before you hit the road. Pack your recreational vehicle accordingly.
Will there be gas opportunities along the route?
Many small towns along the route may close down at sunset, so make sure you fill your tank beforehand. In case of emergency, have cash and a good provider to help you if you get into trouble. You should be overly prepared for your recreational vehicle trip. This will save you money when you break down and need a tow.
Tires are an important part of your Class C motorhome that need to be checked before you hit the road. They also need to be checked when traveling, and this includes pressure. Make sure you have a good, solid spare on board your RV, too.
Should we make reservations before leaving in our Class C motorhome?
It is not a must to make reservations before you hit the road for your journey on the Alaska Highway. You should consider stocking up on groceries, though, to avoid a lack of food or dining out constantly.
Check out guidebooks that focus on this type of route and trip. Be prepared and enjoy a recreational vehicle time of your life. You will find that a Class C recreational vehicle is a great ride for any RVing trip.
