The yachts may vary greatly in magnitude depending on their use and complexity and this sets their prices too. Their length starts from 4.5m and can go up to 100m. The larger yachts however may vary from 61m to over 150m.
The yachts were made in wood and steel in the olden days. Today they are being made of fibre glass and aluminium. The only yachts available in wood are the ones in the collector's homes.
Yachts are categorized as sail yachts and the motor yachts. Sail yachts are green and economical because they propelled by wind. They are subcategorised as: the day sailing yachts, the weekender yachts, the cruising yachts, the racing yachts and the luxury yachts.
The day sailing yachts are small, have no cabins and are for light use. Weekender yachts have a small cabin and can be relied on for two or three days. The cruising yachts have many cabins and are more complex.
The racing yachts are extremely light and so can speed up to 35 knots. They possess a tall mast which increases their sail area. The luxury yachts on the other hand come with the every kind of convenience: anything from a TV to an air-conditioning system is on board.
The motor yachts also fit in the same categories as above depending on the size and the kind of work required out of them. The day cruiser yachts have no cabin and only a small fridge whereas the weekend cruiser yacht may have one o two cabins. The cruising yachts have enough facilities to last for many days.
The other kind of motor yacht is the sport fishing yacht which comes with the entire fishing equipment one needs. Last but not the least the luxury yachts are more like cruising with many other facilities. The motor boats are expensive because they run on diesel.
