The World's Best Luxury Cruises
The largest cruise ships in the world offer luxury but that does not make them the most luxurious. Book passage on one of the Oasis class ships from Royal Caribbean by all means, they are a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but if you want real luxury and pampering you'll have to seek out a smaller and most likely more expensive cruise ship. These are the intimate experiences that you can have with your spouse or companion of choice that will linger in your memory for decades to come.

Travel agencies offer cheap cruises, family packages, and cruises with multiple ports of call to everyone who walks through the door. The industry is successful because they have found a way to make cruise travel affordable for the average individual, couple, or family. Luxury cruises are a special request for most of these agencies and the cruise ships that they are available on are not as easy to secure passage on.
In the early days of the cruise industry all passenger cruises were luxury cruises. The cost was prohibitive for common people to holiday in that manner. Today the cruise holiday is a common outing for many, luxury cruises are reserved for the few. A good rule of thumb in seeking out luxury is the smaller the ship, the more luxurious the cruise will be. A lot of people want to own a private yacht; when you have less than a few hundred passengers on a cruise ship you'll feel like you do.
If you would like to cruise the Mediterranean in luxury try one of the intimate cruises offered by Windstar Cruises in Portugal. One of their ships, Wind Spirit, has a small capacity of less than one hundred fifty people, a sure guarantee that you'll receive individual attention from the captain and crew. Slightly larger ships that offer the same type of personal service are the Silver Shadow out of San Francisco and Seven Seas Voyager out of Monte Carlo. Both have magnificent service and outstanding cuisine.
Rounding out the top five are Carnival Spirit out of San Diego and Zihuatnejo, Mexico and of course Queen Mary 2. Cunnard has been at the top of the luxury cruise line industry since it first began and their latest flagship is no different. Though slightly smaller than the Oasis class ships of Royal Caribbean, The QM2 was built with comfort in mind. For a big ship no one else even comes close.
