Tipping On Cruise Ships

This is one of the questions that a first time cruiser would ask. How do you go about tipping on a cruise? Tipping can be a confusing subject for those who are just new to cruising because there are many cruise lines with different guidelines to implement. You don't have to be restricted to any tipping rules but it would be a good move to ask your travel agent for the system on each cruise line's gratuities then check out your options afterwards.

Generally, gratuities on cruises are classified into three categories:

Automatic Tipping - To remove the trouble of figuring out what the proper tips to allocate out at the end of a trip, many cruise lines are adding tips automatically to the cruiser's on-board accounts. Some of the major cruise lines like Carnival and Norweigan are adding ten to thirteen dollars per day, per guest charge for dining and room services.

Many of the cruise lines will give out discounted tips for kids and the total amount of tips can be controlled when the accounts is closed, based on the client's judgement. In some cases, travel agents can add gratuities directly into the cruise price.

Tip Recommendations - Some companies will simply give tipping on cruises suggestions. Cruise ships provide you with the alternative of paying your tips in cash at the end or include them to your on-board account, which is finalized before you disembark.

No Tipping Policy - Most luxury cruise ships will declare that giving gratuities is not needed. The tips are sometimes built into the price of upscale cruises. Sometimes it's really quite good if you'll award a tip for a quality service.

You should really check out some of your options when it comes to giving gratuities on a cruise because cruise lines can really be confusing when it comes to getting revenue to their ships. The key is to be aware of how cruise lines work so you can advantage and have a good time. Be careful because everything inside the ship is designed to make you spend lots of money.
