Cruise Vacations - Save Money And Vacation Time

Are you thinking of taking a cruise for you next vacation? Cruises don't have to be a one or two week expedition and they don't have to be enjoyed in far away, exotic countries. Many cruises are shorter and you can enjoy one right in your own backyard.

The length of a cruise varies and remember to give yourself a day before and after your cruise to get to your port of embarkation. If you can, try to schedule a seven day cruise which will give you enough time to get adjusted to life aboard the ship and enjoy the amenities and services the ship offers. There are also three and four day cruises which are a good option for those who have limited vacation time or funds. They usually offer the same amenities as longer cruises but with fewer ports of call.

If you choose to take a shorter cruise plan your time wisely. You're sure to feel that you'll want to do more than you have time for. Choose a few activities that interest you and then fill in your time relaxing or play it by ear. Otherwise you will get frustrated or tired from trying to squeeze too much into your vacation.

While cruising the Mediterranean or from Costa Blanca, Spain is exciting and adventurous it is also more costly and takes longer to get to and from your port of embarkation. Cruises can be just as fun a short flight or drive from home. On the West Coast, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle are all ports for cruise ship sailings. In the East there are even more; several in Florida and along the East Coast.

If price is an issue but you still want a taste of a foreign country, think about a cruise to Mexico. For the Yucatan Peninsula there are many that leave from New Orleans and many cities in Florida. For Baja California and Pacific Coast Mexico there are many sailings from Los Angeles and San Diego.

If you really need to penny pinch then there are some things you can do to still take a cruise. Avoid peak travel times such as holidays and summer when cruises are in higher demand. Consider taking a repositioning cruise which will offer most of the same amenities but with fewer ports of call. If your vacation time is flexible then check with travel agents and online websites to see if there are any last minute specials; many times cruise ship companies will offer deep discounts to fill up empty cabins. Many offer package holidays that include transfers and airfare.

Taking a cruise is sure to be a wonderful and relaxing experience. Don't think you have to spend a bundle or take a lengthy flight to enjoy the cruise of your dreams.
