Finding Good Lodge Holidays In The UK
Other than lodge holidays, it's pretty hard to find a decent and comfortable holiday getaway on a budget. But even amongst lodges, there are many options. One could go to the countryside for a nice quiet forest park lodge, or head for the coast. Then there's the cost and the facilities that might come in handy at a lodge.

Location: Lodges are a dime a dozen in Wales, Scotland and England. Some are good and some not so much, depending on the season and how far it is. It can't be too far away from civilization, but need not be so close as not be a getaway at all.
If on the coast, there has to be easy beach access. If in a park, there should be enough facilities, and nearby activities and wildlife, to keep guests from getting bored. It's also a good idea to find out how crowded (or not) it tends to be. Not much point in trying to getaway from the City only to get stuck in the middle of a huge rush of visitors.
Tourists might want to think about combining a UK lodge experience with a visit to a historic attraction or area. One possibility is to rent a lodge at a holiday park in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. The surrounding area is ground zero for Robinhood fans, and the new Russell Crowe movie has made it an even bigger attraction.
Food & Dining: Most lodges will by default have a kitchen. But it's better to verify if it's functional and good enough for self-catering, with a microwave, fridge, dishwasher and a cooker. It's also better to find a lodge where there's a restaurant nearby.
Amenities: The facilities might vary based on how much it costs per day or week, but a few things a lodge must have. There needs to be private parking, as also a veranda and a comfortable lounge with a television and music system. The bedrooms should sleep at least four people, and the bathrooms must have showers and clean towels.
Family Friendly: If neither family friendly nor romantic, it's not really a lodge but simply a log cabin out in the wilderness. It's best to check out the online reviews of any lodge before booking it, and see what people have to say about it. A good place will always have more good reviews, and very few (if any) bad ones.
Family friendly properties usually tend to be in or near popular holiday resorts and attractions. They will definitely offer separate bedrooms for children, and there'll be twin beds along with additional capacity to sleep 6 or 8 people, all told. Romantic cabins are smaller and more secluded with walking trails or an ocean view. Budget permitting, the lodge will have a four-poster bed and jacuzzi and things like that.
Group: Lodges paid for by the week are nowhere near as costly as a hotel or renting a country manor. Even so, it's possible to cut down on the cost even more by going as a group. Some lodges will offer accommodations for 8-10 people, which means 2-3 families can team up to stay in the same lodge.
In summary, there's nothing more satisfying than lodge holidays in the weekend or for a summer vacation. Some amount of research is still required to choose the right lodge. After all, it's a holiday and not much fun washing dishes or driving around trying to find a restaurant.
