Mention Costa Blanca and most people envision white, sandy beaches. But you may not realize there is a lot more available.

While a beach vacation is fun, there is much more to a Costa Blanca holiday. Because its weather is so mild, there's no reason not to enjoy a variety of activities, especially some you have never tried before.
For example, rock climbing is very popular in this region. There are more than 2500 climbing routes along the Costa Blanca, mainly along the limestone mountains that line the coast. If you've never climbed before, sign up for a guided tour which includes equipment and personalized instruction. Weeklong treks are available that include meals and accommodations.
For those who are less adventurous, walking tours are a popular option. Day-, weekend- and week-long guided tours are available. You will be able to get to know the Costa Blanca and its people face-to-face. You will enjoy seeing interesting rock formations, ancient ruins and romantic old homes as you see sites you just can't experience by car.
Because the weather here is so mild, there is no reason you cannot enjoy a rock-climbing or a walking tour of Spain any time of year. You will appreciate the solitude and beauty of the area.
Another great outdoors option is to go kayaking, whether inland or on the coast. Many kayaking tours are also available, most of which include instruction. Keep in mind, most tour operators require participants to know how to swim.
To book one of these tours, simply use your favorite search engine to find the activity you want. You will see a variety of choices. While you will be tempted to sign up for the least expensive tour, do not do so until you have thoroughly compared what the tours include. Some include all meals and accommodations while others do not. Likewise for instruction and equipment.
Also, if you book one of these tours and the activity is new to you, you may want to try the sport at home before book the trip to be sure it will be something you will enjoy. There's nothing worse than finding yourself stuck on a rock ledge in foreign country attempting a sport you find you really don't like. In addition, you may find it easier to get instruction at home where you won't have to face a potential language barrier.
But don't forget there are many other, more familiar, things to do on the Costa Blanca. You will still have a great time shopping, dining and exploring this beautiful part of Spain. There are many reasons this region has become the vacation destination of choice, and even a retirement option for much of Europe. You will enjoy finding those reasons every time you visit.
