Ski Accommodation - A Few Aspects To Consider Before Choosing.
Before going on a ski holiday, you should give the type of ski accommodation you will be staying in more than just a passing thought. Where you stay during your vacation will have a huge effect on how much you enjoy yourself in the end.

Before you even book the accommodation, you should carefully consider which ski resort to go to in the first place. One thing that's quite important is this: during any ski holiday there will be days that you can't ski, mostly because of the weather. The resort that you go to should therefore be developed enough to keep you busy during those days. There should be sufficient alternatives to skiing in other words.
As far as this goes there are two very different types of ski resorts. The first type will mostly have a picturesque little town nearby where there are many interesting shops and a good number of restaurants and coffees shop and pubs. During non-skiing days and at night you can therefore browse through the shops and make friends with other skiers in the coffee shops and pubs.
The other type of resort, which you tend to find more in developing countries than elsewhere, provides a ski-only experience. There will be facilities like ski-lifts and a handful of hotels and guest houses, but not a lot more. Unless you plan to ski around the clock, you might find this kind of resort very boring in the end. It's fine to go there for a quick day's skiing, but to spend two or three weeks there is really only for the hardened nature lover.
The better developed resorts normally have a huge variety of accommodation establishment. There are usually more than enough five star hotels to satisfy the influx of the well-heeled who want only the best. Often these hotels have their own shopping centers with boutique stores and a couple of world class restaurants. There will normally also be facilities like saunas and gyms to make sure you stay busy during days that you can't ski.
Mid-range hotels provide a home from home for the bulk of middle class skiers. They offer perfectly acceptable accommodation to fit the budget of the average guy in the street. Facilities that you are likely to find here are private bathrooms, televisions, perhaps a small refrigerator and a kettle so you can make your own coffee or tea.
Self-catering options are available in and around most ski resorts. There is no better solution for the family man. Cost wise it's certainly the best option for a family. You will not only save money on the accommodation itself, but since these chalets will always have a kitchen, you can save a lot of money by preparing all or most of your meals at home.
An all-time favorite when it comes to ski accommodation is of course the guest house. This is the perfect option for people who like to make new friends. Many new friendships have indeed blossomed around the breakfast table of a guest house. They normally provide great value for money and the better ones can be compared to the best of hotels.
