Which Clubs Should You Carry?

Within the rules of the USGA you can carry up to 14 clubs in your bag. A general set of clubs will contain the following: 3 woods, a driver, a 3 wood and a 5 wood. You have 8 irons a number 3 - number 9 and then a pitching wedge. The final club in the standard set is a putter. The USGA has a number of world class golf courses Las Vegas golf courses are just some in the country.

The function of a golf set makeup is to make sure you have the right mix of clubs with you during a game. It's important to get the right range of clubs that will allow you to hit the ball different distances. The issue is that many golfers and club makers do not use this to their full advantage.

A good golf set makeup will help you replace the hard to use clubs in your set for easier to use clubs, without losing distance. Such changes as a hybrid wood for the long irons. This is the principle behind a golf set makeup.

a) Driver

Out of all the clubs, the driver has the lowest loft of all the clubs. There are different angles of lofts on the driver, anything from 7 - 12 degrees. The better golfers out there tend to use a lower loft driver as it takes more skill to use. The less experienced golf will use the higher loft driver.

What is it that stops all golfers being able to hit the golf ball as far a possible? The driver is the club you want to use for distance. The club makers state: "The longer the length, the lower the loft, the heavier the weight and the stiffer the shaft, the harder the club will be to be hit for any golfer". So it takes more skill to be able to use the driver correctly.

Your number 1 wood does not need to be your driver. It can be the club you can hit the ball furthest with, while keeping it straight on the short grass. Many companies that make clubs now offer a driver with a higher loft, sometimes up to 15 degrees.

Some golfers have a slow swing speed. For these golfers even a 15 degree loft is not big enough. For these golfers it is best to use a 5 or even 7 wood as their driver, as the loft of these clubs will get the most out of their swing.

b) Fairway wood

Many golfers will say that the next club they can hit the ball furthest is their 3 wood. But for some this is not the case, their 5 wood or 7 is the next longest. This is because the loft of a 3 wood is low and golfers cannot get the ball high enough. This mean the 3 wood is often not the second longest hitting club.

So testing your range with a number of clubs will help you improve your game.
