The first, and one of the most important, things that you need to consider is where you will be sitting. When you get to the airport and check in most flights will allow you to choose exactly where you want to sit. As such, it is a good idea to ask the person registering your seat to suit you somewhere where there are less people on the plane.
Of course, if you are able to pick flights that would have less people on them overall then this will be beneficial. However, for the most part, you will have absolutely no power over how many people actually get on the plane. As such, one of your main choices will come down to whether you will want to sit on the aisle seat or on the window seat.
For example, if you choose to sit by the window and then you will have an area to lean against. This will be particularly important if the flight is very long and will stop you having to lean against the person sitting next to you. In addition, you will also be up to look out of the window in order to provide some entertainment, at least to some degree. The aisle seat however will enable you to get up and stretch your legs without having to cause any problems for the people sitting next you and as such gives you a little bit more freedom.
Aside from exactly where you sit, it will also be absolutely crucial for you to bring some items onto the flight that will allow you to stay a little bit more comfortable and entertained. While many flights that go overnight will provide you with pillows and blankets, these are often pretty poorly made and insufficient to most people's needs. As such, it is always a good idea to bring your own items along instead.
In addition, you may want to take some sort of entertainment to keep you sane during those extremely long flights across the world. For example, a book or two would certainly be a good idea.
Lastly, you may also think about the idea of bringing on a few snacks and some water as well. As soon as you get through security you should purchase a few items that you can eat and drink during the flight so that you can avoid hunger and thirst from taking over.
