Are you planning a vacation to a far off destination, maybe you regularly fly long haul on business, whatever the reason it is essential that you stay healthy in the air and arrive at your destination feeling refreshed. The following advice when implemented should ensure that your flights do not cause you any problems.

Rest: Before you leave you should ensure you have a good rest. Do all your packing at least twenty four hours prior to the flight. If you leave everything until the last moment then you are going to be up half the night sorting out what to take and will end up boarding the flight already exhausted.
Water: It's very easy to get dehydrated when flying. The pressurized air causes our bodies to lose more water than normal. Today due to security concerns you may not be allowed to board the plane with liquids, but nevertheless ensure that the flight attendants provide you with adequate water. Dehydration will result in severe lethargy upon arrival.
Meals: Think carefully about the food that you eat. If you consume heavy fatty food on the flight then you are going to be slower and more tired on arrival. Most airlines will now offer a range of meals including healthy options. Stick to light food if possible.
Alcohol: As we are usually given free alcohol when we fly there is the temptation to drink beer and spirits on board but this would be very unwise. The effect of alcohol at altitude is more than when at ground level. Alcohol is a diuretic which increases dehydration.
Exercise: However long your flight is, it is important that you exercise as much as possible when in the air. Walk along the aisle at least once an hour, when it is safe to do so. You can wriggle your toes and feet when seated to ensure good blood circulation, unfortunately some people suffer with swollen ankles when flying.
Seat Choice: Today we have a greater flexibility when booking flight tickets. If making the booking online you can usually pick the seat that you want. The most popular are usually those next to the emergency exit as they have a greater legroom, and may get given their meals first. Whether you opt for a window or aisle seat is down to your own preference.
