Low Fares Boost For Lanzarote Holidays
With less money to go around than in recent years, worries about job security and inflation predicted to outstrip pay rises for the next couple of years, the surprise perhaps is not that less overseas holidays are being taken at the moment, but that the market hasn't seen a much sharper decline.

The reason that many people are still able to venture abroad and take Lanzarote holidays for example is due a large part to budget airlines like Ryanair and easyJet, who have made the cost of getting to favourite destinations cheaper and within reach of many families, even during the current recession.
And while it may be fashionable among some quarters to criticise pioneers like Ryanair for the way they price their flights, without them the travel industry would be in a worse state than it is today.
Many businesses on islands like Lanzarote rely on tourism, and some have been established soley to cater for holidaymakers, and a big drop in arrivals would see many going to the wall, and while they may not realise it they have their survival and in better times profits in part thanks to the low cost carriers who provice Lanzarote flights from the UK and Ireland.
As well as price, Ryanair and easyJet have also transformed when and for how long a trip can be taken for. Not so long ago airlines insisted on a Friday night stay or the prices charged would be too much for ordinary families to even contemplate. Now they can fly out on a day that suits them, and with many carriers providing two or more Lanzarote flights a day, the choice of departure times has also increased.
And where they fly from has also improved their choice. Before the budget airlines came along the main choice for holidaymakers was London Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow airports.
But looking at which airports are available now shows just how much more choice people have today. In addition to the traditional main hubs there are airports available up and down the country when booking Lanzarote holidays.
easyJet for example offer Liverpool's John Lennon Airport - ideal for those not just on Merseyside but North Wales too.
But Ryanair offer a far wider choice, and include for those wanting the Lanzarote weather Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds and Luton plus Bournemouth along with London airports such as Stansted and Luton.
But it's when you look at regional airports and the diverse number of destinations they serve now compared to just a few years ago that the true impact of low cost airlines is appreciated - for example Bristol which serves the south west of England:
For those wanting to visit Spain, Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Madrid, Mallorca, Malaga, Tenerife, Murcia and Menorca are all served by easyJet alone, and with flights to the Algarve, France and the Greek Islands as well most holiday destinations are reachable - just one example of one airline at one airport.
No matter what the press may say about Ryanair, the reality is that without them and easyJet islands like Lanzarote would be seeing a lot less tourists.
