It wants to be recognized as the third largest Spanish city after Madrid and Barcelona. But in 2003 Valencia was proclaimed the official welcoming city for the 2007 Americas Cup. This city had always been noteworthy for its annual Fallas festival, but hosting the Americas Cup and having a newly constructed municipal building Valencia could be deemed the 'City of the Arts and Sciences',

You may not know it, but The America's Cup is the finest regatta race and it is the oldest distinguishable trophy on the international sailing scene. The Americas Cup predates the modern Olympics by about fifty year. The race attracts the top sailors and yacht designers since it is a real test of skill and design. The race also tests the participant's skill of fundraising, and management. This race was not always know n as the Americas cup but had its origins in Royal Yacht Squadron. It was named the America cup after the first the schooner 'America' that won the trophy.
As the organization progressed The Swiss team 'Alinghi' that won the 2003 America's Cup, were told they should choose the headquarters for the coming competition. The host city should have excellent weather conditions. The city would have to provide other services for the entire event. Valencia has a gorgeous year round climate especially in summertime. Even in winter you'll still find mild weather great for swimming.
There are neighboring cities such as Denia, Javea and Alicante where you can have a great time visiting during the slower periods of the Americas Cup. When Marseille France hosted the event in 2004, the race sailed from pier J4 where there where numerous giant video screens put up for fans and interested people. The committee chose Marseille it had many viewing places where you can watched the race first hand.
Travel to Spain has always been for adventure and sunshine. The American Cup has numerous innovations and vacationer attractions that offer the crowning event in the Americas Cup to be reached through the Valencia airport. This airport has undergone massive upgrades to accommodate the traveler with new flight areas and runways for easier travel to and from this vibrant city. What a wonderful vacation spot.
Some of the finest vacation accommodation such as the new Silken Puerta, built right near the Valencia port area also called Posadas de Espana. This was a former rundown industrial district. Today you'll discover Fairgrounds making your stay pleasurable. The 33rd America's Cup will happen in 2010 and it will possibly take place in Valencia again. The actual participants and the format of the race aren't known yet. Be sure that you're there is you love the regatta.
