Tourism - Economic links between Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
Not everyone stops to think about how closely linked Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly really are, but there are many economic and tourism links that are important. The area is maritime and rural, and while it's a big area, the population density is really low. Businesses there are growing, and because the areas are linked so closely a company that has a business in one area often has the same type of business in another area. That's important because the tourism industry is very large in the Isles of Scilly and in Cornwall, but for different reasons. The Isles of Scilly are very different even though they are not very far from Cornwall geographically. They are warm and many of the people who go there on holiday enjoy the beach and the lush, tropical climate. It's a very romantic place and it's popular for weddings, anniversaries, and proposals, as well as valentine getaways. Not everyone who takes a holiday there is interested in those kinds of things, but the Isles of Scilly are popular places for people to bring their loved ones for weekend getaways and romantic holidays.
In contrast, Cornwall is more oriented toward the family experience. You can certainly be romantic in Cornwall, but it's also well-designed for family and for groups of friends who want to just get together and have a holiday. Cornwall also has a lot going on when it comes to the economy, because business and industry are much larger there than they used to be. Quarrying and mining have been part of the long history of the area, but technology, medical, and maritime business sectors are increasing as well. That means that more people are living there and that there are more places for people to shop and explore simply because the number of people has grown and they need things to do. That makes it great for those on holiday in Cornwall as well, because they have more options than ever before. Between the shopping and the landscapes there is always something to do in both Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, so if you're taking a holiday or looking for work or a new business, you have some opportunities there.
