While most people like to go to Greece in the heat of the summer months, the downside to this is high-season prices, crowds of tourists, and scorchingly hot days. Clearly it is the sun which draws people in at this time, but the weather is far more comfortable in April or October, offering mild days for walking and sightseeing, but still being warm enough to sit out on the balcony or the beach. Best of all, you can enjoy the walking, sightseeing and beaches minus the bustle and crowds you'd get in the summer.
The obvious upside to travelling in the low season is the lower prices. Hotels offer reduced rates prior to tourist season (which starts in May) and many throw in rental cars in the same room price.
Island hopping is a great way to see a lot of Greece. Places such as Crete and Rhodes are brilliant to visit and allow visitors to see more of this beautiful country. This is an extremely popular thing to do in high season, but is much more relaxing during low season. It should be noted though, that as in low season the sea can get choppy and sometimes boats don't leave the dock if the sea is too rough.
There you have it. Travelling to Greece before peak tourist season will offer you plenty of space to roam and sightsee in, plenty of room on the beaches, lovely warm weather which won't leave you sweltering, and low room rates at Greece hotels as well! It's definitely the best time to go to Greece - you'll be very wise if you do.
