Tours Of Hollywood: A Slice Of Celebrity Life

In our celebrity obsessed society many people would do anything to meet their favorite T. V. Or movie star. Most people, at one time or another, have wondered what celebrities are like in person and how it feels to live their everyday, publicly scrutinized life. Even if you have no designs on becoming a big star yourself one day, it's easy to get caught up in hearing about their high profile lives. If you live in or are visiting the Los Angeles area, one way to get a little glimpse into the stars' daily living and working world is to take one of the many Hollywood star tours.

There are many types of tours you can do, depending on your level of interest and the amount of time you have to spend in the area. There are the basic bus tours that drive around Hollywood and the surrounding areas, such as Beverly Hills and Bel Air pointing out all the historic, infamous or popular places of interest.

Then there are the requisite tours of the stars homes, during which you are still on a bus or trolley, but the locations pointed out are only of the full or part time residences of certain celebrities. Many people have the idea that they will actually get out of the vehicle and get to browse around the stars' homes or yards - and perhaps get a glimpse of them inside. This may have been the case long ago in the old days of Hollywood, but currently, due to city ordinances, the buses can pause briefly so you can take pictures and they can give you some background information about the residence or the celebrity, but they cannot let passengers out to roam around. Can you imagine the complaints or possible traffic congestion if they did?

Then you have the Studio tours which are great because you get to have an actual glimpse behind the scenes of working television and movie sets. You get to see what really goes on in front of and behind the cameras during a shoot. There's also often a lot of interaction with studio tours. Universal studios even has and explosive special effects rehearsal that you get to witness.

Because you are in their place of business, a bonus is that you have a good chance at seeing some of the actual celebrities at work. Even if you don't catch their performance, you may see them walking around the lot. Tours take place usually every day of the week, so you can try to plan to take your tour on a working day for the best chance a a celebrity sighting.

There are also tours available for those that want to see a little more of the seedy side of Hollywood. There is one company, Dearly Departed Tours, that is taking the term sensationalism to a new level. Their aim is to cater to tour-goers who are interested in the scandalous and dark events surrounding some very high profile individuals.

The Hollywood Tragical History Tour is a ride to see the places that have been involved in the tragic or suspicious deaths of many celebrities and the quite popular Helter Skelter Tour takes you on a visit to all the sites in which the Manson Family committed the Tate and LaBianca murders.

Probably not exactly what you expected in a Hollywood tour, but if you get bored with all the sunshine and the glossy mansions and you like your tours with just a touch of morbid, then Dearly Departed Tours, et. Al. Might just be your cup of tea.
