Touring The Hebrides Isles And The Worthy Tourist Attractions On The Isle of Harris

Sun bathing on the beach for the whole of my summer vacation isn't my idea of fun. Please don't misunderstand me, I do enjoy a relaxing visit to a sandy beach, but, I also like to travel a little inland too. I like to soak in the atmosphere, I really like to indulge in the local foods and sampling the culture. In truth each year I enjoy visiting new places and I I spend a great deal of time trying to discover somewhere 100% different. This is the most probable reason why I so thoroughly enjoy visits to the Hebrides island called the Isle of Harris and why I often decide to book self catering cottages on the Isle of Harris.

The Isle of Harris is a tiny island located off the Scottish west coast. The Isle of Harris is one of hundreds of small isles/islands commonly known as the Outer Hebrides, although strictly speaking the UK postal address is the Western Isles. Known as either the Western Isles or the Outer Hebrides the islands are beautiful in the extreme and fascinatingly unique. For people who simple can't do without a golden sandy beach Harris has a multitude to choose from and virtually all are wonderful and often deserted. It sometimes seems 'round each twist and turn you are met with an awesome sight. The Isle of Harris roads are rather different to those you will have experienced on the Scottish mainland you commonly come across stretches of single track road and you will will be required to use passing places to let past traffic from ahead and also from behind. All you really need to do is come to a stop on the left. But, If it is a large and cumbersome vehicle wishing to get past and the passing place is to the right of the road you can tuck yourself into it to let the large vehicle pass more easily but be careful not to end up off the road too much.

One of the main reasons people visit the Isle of Harris is to enjoy the the culture and landscape of the Isles. The culture of the Isle of Harris has, through the generations been immensely influenced by the English, Scottish, Celtic and Norse races. Nowadays in general most people speak in the Gaelic language and although some talk in English, it is most likely their second language. The Harris people are amongst the most friendly on earth and the hospitality is extremely well known. The people of the Isle of Harris are incredibly proud of the amazingly beautiful Harris countryside and try very hard to keep the place tidy and clean so it is immensely important not to leave litter.

Dotted along the south west coast of the Isle of Harris are to be found some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in all of Scotland, and many folk believe the U.K. You will, most probably, notice how crystal clear the waters are and it is a fact that the beaches on the Isle of Harris are lovely and clean. Sadly there is no way to avoid debris washing up from Atlantic shipping but surprisingly there isn't much.
