Try A Work & Play Vacation To Visit Syndey On The Cheap

For many youngsters, the possibility of Sydney Australia vacations seems far from reach. Many Sydney hotel deals start at $200/night, flights are in the thousands and it's impossible to imagine taking more than a week off work. However, Tourism Australia and STA Travel are looking at ways to give American students the opportunity of a lifetime -- to work and live in Sydney, Australia for up to 12 months! Just recently, Tourism Australia announced their "Work and Play" visa program, which offers deep discounts on accommodations, airfare and tour packages for students between the ages of 18 and 30.

James Bell, the Commercial VP of STA Travel, puts it this way: "Taking up to a year to work and play in Australia becomes a real possibility for many people when they realize resources are there to help them be successful - accommodations when they arrive, job training and leads, and to be connected to a nationwide network of young people looking to explore all that Australia has to offer."

Low-cost Sydney vacations can be booked from Los Angeles to on the brand new V Australia airlines. The newest international airline company caters especially to young adults with "rock star service", from their award-winning cabin crew, "mood lighting" to match the phases of the flight, "ergonomically-designed seats" that claim to be the "Pacific's widest" (available even for the economy travelers), two in-flight bars, on-demand movies/music/games, USB ports to power personal devices, seat-to-seat chat, full-service meals and self-service snack kiosks.

An important part of "Work and Play" Sydney Australia vacations is the visa application process. To apply, individuals must be between the ages 18 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of applying, must not have previously entered Australia on a work visa and must hold a passport. Once a person is granted the Australian work visa, then he or she will be eligible to undertake employment with any one employer for up to six months.

To get a passport, travelers can visit www.travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html for more information. To get the Australian work visa, travelers must apply over the internet at www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/462 or by completing a form at the Australian Embassy or Consulate. There is a fee of $230 for the work visa.

Some students choose to take their Sydney Australia vacations just after graduating high school, taking a year off school to visit Sydney before heading to college. Others choose to visit after they finish college as a reward, and as a way of delaying the dreaded "real world" a little while longer. Once students arrive, they will receive some job placement information, with various positions available, such as a waiter, concierge, ranch hand, flight attendant, surf instructor, wine production assistant or bartender, to name a few. Students may also choose to study in Australia for up to four months as well.
