There is a long list of tourist places in India where travelers can take in the rich cultural background of the country. India is the seventh largest country in the world and is located in Southern Asia. The country is populated by over a billion people and there is a huge diversity in language and cultural backgrounds amongst those living there. Taking in the Sights

The Taj Mahal, in Agra, is possibly the most famous and well noted spots in the world. The building is considered to be one of seven wonders located around the world and for good reason. The massive structure was built in early sixteen hundred by Shah Jahan and meant to pay tribute to the memory of his wife. The entire structure is said to be symbolic of love and is easily the most visited sites in the country.

While in Agra, many people tour the fort which is also known as Laal Kila. The structure is located a short distance from the Taj Mahal and is visited by thousands of people each day. The fort was built during the Mughal Dynasty and is the reason that Agra is known as the walled Palatial City. Visitors touring the structures inside can enjoy a beautiful courtyard, two mosques, and even a market place.

For those visitors who wish to see some incredible and amazing caverns, there are the Ajanta caves. They are located around sixty miles from Aurangabad, Maharash tra and date back to the second century. There are well over thirty caves that contain beautiful sculptures and wall paintings that show the rich Buddhist heritage around the area. Visitors can tour the caves anytime from early morning to evening and can expect to pay a small entrance fee.

Anyone visiting Mumbai, India should consider taking a tour of Elephant Island caves found on Gharapuri Island. The destination is only accessed by ferry and several of them leave the harbor each day and return in the evening. The caves are full of temples and shrines along with massive structures that date back to the fifth century. The main cave has an ancient Hindu worship area that was destroyed during the Portuguese rule.

There is a wide variety of tourist places in India that offer amazing sites along with the rich culture and history the country has to offer. People touring the region can spend weeks taking in immense structures and incredible structures. Take a camera to capture each moment of the trip as the memories are sure to be incredible.
