Planning A Trip To Cambridge - Cambridgeshire



There is so much to do and see in Cambridge - Cambridgeshire that you can easily get lost for days in all of the events, activities, and sites. There is an event or festival almost every week the entire year round in Cambridge. A person can attend the Annual Musical Festival, Arts Festivals, a Shakespearean season, just to name a few.

Every street corner has a gallery, pub, or restaurant to enjoy. The restaurants offer cuisines from around the world. You can enjoy a traditional meal and ale in a pub, or spend the evening enjoying the dancing and nightlife that the city offers regularly. The colleges are absolute works of architectural art. Cambridge University, first founded by students in 1209 provides you an opportunity to wander and see the architecture of the past.

At St. Mary's Cathedral you will find another beautiful part of Cambridge. Climbing the narrow stairs of the tower you will be met with a glorious view of the entire city of Cambridge. There are many museums and galleries devoted to specific themes and activities that have taken place in Cambridge. The National History Museum offers an opportunity to see items retrieved during digs in and around Cambridge.

The forty acre Cambridge Botanical Garden provides a delightful respite from the busy and hectic surroundings of much of the city. You can walk along quiet paths and enjoy the flora and fauna of England. Opened to the public in'46, the garden boasts themed glass houses that take you from the tropics to the desert in displays of living plants. There are parkways, pathways, fountains, and beautiful mature trees covering this wonderful space.

Among the many ways to see the sites of the city are the open top bus tour. The buses provide regular tours throughout the city that lead you from the Neolithic times through modern day. You will see the wonderful architecture of the Romans, Georgian, and Victorian periods. In addition, you can see the site Cambridge Castle which was build in 1069 by William the Conqueror and hear the fascinating story of the castle and its demise.

Taking a punting tour on the River Cam will give you an opportunity to see many of the sites that you might miss if not for the river. There are beautiful buildings and cafes that line the River. You will also want to visit the historic and modern theatres and galleries that provide nightly entertainment.

You will want to make reservation ahead to vacation in Cambridge and the prices will vary for your accommodations. Depending on the events, festivals, or activities that are taking place, the city can become very active and busy. The bed and breakfasts provide an opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of the people of Cambridge. Or, you may wish to stay in a larger hotel that overlooks the River Cam. The vacation will be marvelous when you visit and you will come away with some wonderful memories and experiences.
