Europe is the most popular holiday destination with tourists and it is no surprise why. Well maintained heritage, easy travel and open borders make for a quick fun get away. Seven out of ten holiday locations are European destinations and the choice of season for most holiday makers is no doubt summer. So get those unflattering big hats out, dab some sunscreen and sit with a cool drink as you explore the best places to soak up some sun in Europe this summer.

Festivals in Europe
Europe is flooded with summer festivals starting in July till August, making most of those rare sunny days. The most popular ones are Ghent Festival which is the largest open air cultural festival in Europe, Redentore which takes place in Venice on the third Sunday of July, and is the most spectacular sight with feasts and fireworks galore and the more messy late August Tomatina Festival in Spain where you get to pelt everyone with the excess tomatoes from August.
If you are a more sober type who enjoys simple art and music then the Edinburgh festival in August is a must see and the Salzburg festival in Austria held in July-August.
Take in some European culture
If all you want to do is kick back with some Daiquiris, enjoy the night life and look at cultural heritages then you're in luck. With the cheap hotel and flight deals you are bound to find just the right trip that fits your budget.
Take in some of ancient Rome while exploring the Piazzas, visiting the Colosseum and seeking an audience with the Pope at the Vatican.
