South Africa is somewhere between New and Old world wine making. In the past few decades the country's wine industry try to step out within its borders. To tell the truth with many success. They make more fashionable product and export many bottles yearly. South Africa is one of the few country where not Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay is the leader. Chenin Blanc is. We can found here rare grapes like Colombard or Pinotage as well.

There are six large regions in South Africa on 270.000 acres. Most of them are located in the Western Cape.

The Stellenbosch is one of the most important part of the wine industry with its 15 percent share of the annual wine production. It has optimal climate for viticulture as in Bordeaux. Recommended red wine from here with a touch of chocolate is Indaba Shiraz.

At the foot of the Heldenberg Mountain we can find Durbanville region. Try a white wine hinted by citrus and gooseberry: Moulderbosch Sauvignon Blanc.

One of driest and arid place in South Africa is the Breede River Valley. The valley is located at the Drakenstein Mountains. The river has a must see landscape.

We have arrived to the biggest wine region in South Africa. This is Constantia. The Constantia ward is located south of Cape Town on the Cape Peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic ocean. The source of the dessert wine Vin de Constance, drunk by Napoleon when exiled on St Helena. This region is now also the source for some excellent table wines. Vergelen Premium Red Cabernet Sauvignon with its chocolate flavor is a rare pleasure for us.

The most southerly wine region is Walker Bay with its sandy beaches and cooler climate. This is the reason why this region was fully planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. A rare wine from here with its lemon taste: The Ruins Chardonnay/Viognier.

Despite FIFA World Championship will held this year, not that is the only reason to go South Africa. Other reason is the wine. Wine which can be red or white or just simple rarities pairs with many fine African food.
