Terra Cotta Warriors And The First Emperor Of China

The Yunnan Stone Forest - also named Shilin - is located in the capital of the Yunnan province - Kunming. It has been recognized in China as one of the wonders of the world since the Ming Dynasty. It was created by natural erosion processes that have been occuring since pre-history.

It flows from its source in Qinghai Province, eastwards into the East China Sea at Shanghai. It acts as a dividing line between North and South China, although geographers generally consider the Qinling-Huai River line to be the official line of geographical division. Finally it flows into the Pacific Ocean.

There are guided tours available which makes sense to do so as to be aware of most things and not to miss some of the important aspects of the Stone Forest. There is a lot to see including human and animal shaped stones along with the Major and Minor Stone Forests.

The Wind Cave is so named because between the months of August and November the winds that blow throughout the caves create unusual sounds. The Subterranean Stone Forest is an underground formulation which covers and area of 720 acres in all.

According to records in addition to many other valuables that were buried with the First Emperor was 100 rivers that were made from mercury.

Although these are not to be found today, scientific studies have shown high mercury readings in the surrounding soils which obviously adds credence to this account. The actual tomb of the Emperor remains unopened, and much of the site is still not excavated.
