Unforgettable Dining Experiences in Cornwall

Cornwall is a popular tourist destination and it is little surprise that visitors are often spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out. There are a vast number of acclaimed chefs specialising in local cuisine across the region, and it is fair to say that to try to rank the top five seafood restaurants would be something of a futile task. However, there are great places to dine, and there are unforgettable dining experiences. This article details some known and some lesser known restaurants which serve great food and are unique too.

The Seafood Restaurant
The name Rick Stein is synonymous with eating out in Cornwall today but it is The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow which should be the destination of choice for those eager to sample a menu from one of the country's top chefs. The ingredients are classically Cornish, such as: monkfish, lobster and oysters, but the fusion of international styles from Europe and Asia make the overall culinary experience that much more special.

Provedore
Tucked away up the hill from Falmouth's busy high street is Provedore, a small cafe which for two nights a week (Thursday and Friday) serves the best tapas in town. Being something of a 'known only by locals affair,' Provedore has fast gained a reputation of serving authentic and simple food - ranging from seafood, to European meats, to vegetarian choices - in a homely atmosphere. The menu changes each week and you must arrive early to get a table in the small traditionally decorated restaurant room or the courtyard.

Fifteen Cornwall
Another well known restaurant due in part to the name attached. Jamie Oliver's well established Fifteen Cornwall is one part upmarket restaurant and one part social enterprise scheme working to teach budding chefs how to hone their skills in a competitive and growing market in Cornwall. Needless to say, the menu is outstanding - again, with a seafood and local slant - and the location at Watergate Bay is one of the best in the Duchy.

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant
Again, perhaps a lesser known name brand than Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver, Carn Brea Castle Restaurant near Redruth offers an experience no less mouth-watering. Serving the best in Middle Eastern cuisine - such as pilafs, steaks, kebabs and a sizeable vegetarian menu too - within a building which dates back to the 1300s, Carn Brea is a popular and unique experience you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the country.
