Viamede Resort Announces Return of the Boathouse Classic Hockey Tournament In Support of the Stoney Lake Heritage Foundation
Viamede Resort (www.viamede.com), a 125 year-old Stoney Lake landmark, will be running its 2nd Annual Boathouse Classic Hockey Tournament on Saturday, February 11th and Sunday, February 12th, 2012. This year money raised will benefit the Stoney Lake Heritage Foundation, a local organization that works towards protecting and preserving the lake's many historic structures. The tournament will be held at Viamede's Boathouse Pub, which has long been a favourite on Stoney Lake.

The Pub, which overlooks Viamede's ice rinks, will be undergoing several upgrades in time for the tournament. "The Pub is about to be given a facelift," says Ben Sämann, Owner and General Manager of Viamede. "We will be painting, adding brand new televisions and featuring a new menu for the season. It's a great atmosphere, and will be a cozy place for both participants and onlookers to warm up and unwind before, during and after the tournament."
After last year's success, the tournament has been expanded from one to two days. In 2011, the event saw teams compete from Stoney Lake and Peterborough, as well as from Toronto and beyond. In the end, the Fifth Line Fockers from Peterborough prevailed. "Many of this year's teams are already practicing on our rinks," says Sämann. "Friendly games are being played Thursdays and Sundays. We expect a large turn-out for the tournament and, from the looks of it, there will be good competition."
The entry fee for the tournament is $225 per team of five players, which includes a minimum of three games, great prizes, dinner buffet (for five), and wine with dinner. Saturday night will feature live music from Brian Haddlesey. "It will be a fun time, for a great cause," says Sämann. "As a historic establishment on Stoney Lake, we understand the importance of supporting the Heritage Foundation in their endeavors. People flock to Stoney Lake because it still holds the magical wonder and mystery of years gone by. This is something we need sustain so that future generations can continue to enjoy what Stoney has to offer."
