Changing the Parts on Your Plane
Owning a plane is kind of like owning a home: there is always something that needs to be replaced, tweaked or looked at. The difference is if you don't keep up with your home it can cost you more to fix it later on. If you don't keep up with your aircraft, though, it won't just cost you more to fix it later, it may also cost you your life. Depending on the part that needs to be replaced or the area that needs to be inspected, you could find yourself in some serious trouble in the sky if you don't keep up with a schedule. With that in mind, you need to make sure that you either know what you are doing, or you hire someone who knows what they are doing to help you out with your regular inspection and repairs. It's not just about knowing where to get aircraft parts & supplies and replacing them; it's about knowing when the right time is to do the work.

Unless you have a good amount of money to your name right now there is a good chance that you are in charge of consistently checking your parts and making sure that everyone on your plane is in flying ready condition. While this can sound a bit daunting, once you get into the hang of things you will find yourself able to get through the process each time that you fly without many problem. While these spot checks can help, the key to being safe in the air is knowing when aircraft parts need to be changed before you notice an issue. Most people keep a list of when parts need to be replaced so that they can keep to a schedule and not get any unwelcomed mid-air "surprises".
In fact, the hardest part of keeping your plane up to date is finding someplace to get aircraft parts and supplies that you need. Let's face it: aircraft parts aren't the type of thing that you go to Wal-Mart or Target for, and while there are some physical wholesale locations that you can buy the parts in person you are typically going to have to go online to find what you need. The good news is that, thanks to the sheer volume of the internet, you are able to find dozens, if not hundreds, of shops that specialize in airplane parts and that you can compare prices between.
