Maui - A Year-Round Vacation Destination

With no wrong time of year to visit and a seemingly endless list of activities, Maui continues to lure visitors from around the world. Over 2 million visitors travel to this lush tropical isle yearly. Even the local Hawaiians agree that "Maui no ka oi," or, "Maui is the best."

When planning a trip to the Valley Isle, the first thing to consider would be when to visit. Christmas is a very popular time for tourists, making it rather crowded at this time of year. In addition, prices for accommodations and airfares are generally higher. October through April is considered winter on the Hawaiian islands, so you can expect frequent showers, but that is true most of the year on this beautiful island. The weather is pretty consistent year round, with temperatures rarely dipping below 80 degrees during the day and dropping roughly 10 degrees in the evening. The spring and fall months are considered the best seasons to visit.

There is a plethora of accommodation choices on Maui. While many enjoy the scenic locations and amenities of the big hotels, an equally great option is renting a condo for your stay, especially if this is a family trip and more space is desired. Condominiums offer separate bedrooms for everyone, and of course, have a fully equipped kitchen. Most visitors appreciate being able to prepare at least a few meals, which saves on expenses, and of course is very convenient. Some condos also have laundry facilities, a real advantage when you need to rinse out those sandy bathing suits. They also often offer golf privileges at the local courses. Typical hotel amenities and more are usually available too, including swimming pools with outdoor spas, tennis courts, cable TV, wireless internet access, shuffleboard, putting greens and barbeques. Some can even arrange for your family picnic as well.

The list of Maui activities is endless, offering something for every traveler, young and old alike. The dining is superb; Maui has many local restaurants where you can sample the fresh catch of the day. Among the activities you can select from: guided tours to a volcano, nighttime luaus to sample a local feast, ATV or bike riding, fishing, parasailing, horseback riding, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, helicopter rides, whale watching (both from ashore as well as on whale tour boats), swimming and dinner cruising. Long walks on the beach are a must, and if you have an opportunity, you should try to get to a black sand beach, just for the experience. The tropical waters and foliage are spectacular in contrast with the black sands. If you are interested in spotting the yearly migration of whales, the winter months are the time of year to visit. But there is no shortage of dolphins to watch the rest of the year.

Of course, you always have the option to just sit back on the lanai of your Maui vacation rental, to watch the sun set over the water while you enjoy the soothing tropical breezes.
