Mill Valley Meanderings

Long the destination of choice for the Bay Area wealthy, Mill Valley has emerged of late as a favored destination of middle class families. Though it still remains one of the most expensive North Bay towns to live in, more and more families are trying to leverage their budgets to afford living there. This, of course, was not always the case for Mill Valley. Indeed, until recently it was little more than a kind of vacation spot for the Bay Area well-to-do.

Mill Valley may be a hard sell for families not accustomed to the high price of living in the Golden State, given the fact that a three-bedroom home still rents for approximately $3,000 a month. Nevertheless, for families seeking nothing more than a vacation destination, they could do far worse than the North Bay.

Mill Valley is poised on the outer periphery of the Muir Woods National Monument and just north of scenic Sausalito. Tourists who are more interested in exploring the natural beauty of the Bay Area would be better served staying north of San Francisco. Here they can take in the Muir Woods and perhaps plan a day-trip to Stinson Beach, which is one of the preeminent beaches in the region.

After a day of tanning, there are a number of attractions within Mill Valley itself. A few of them are Blithedale Park, Cascade Park, and Mill Valley Golf Course. Blithedale Park is a hiker's paradise, so be sure to come equipped for a moderate to easy hike. Cascade Park, on the other hand, is a family park designed for your usual family fare: Frisbee, picnics, and perhaps an afternoon nap. Mill Valley Golf Course is the only one in the county and is open to the public. It's nine holes of golf you will not soon forget.

The best way to reserve your next vacation to the North Bay is to reserve a Mill Valley hotel room well in advance. Though San Francisco tends to enjoy the lion's share of tourists to the region, Mill Valley happens to be the vacation destination of many locals. When you come, be sure you bring your supply of tanning lotion and your checkbook.
