Montreal Grand Prix Brings Tourist Dollars to the City
This month, the Formula 1 Grand Prix Du Canada 2011 returns to Montreal once again, bringing with it massive crowds of racing fans and millions of dollars in tourism revenue for the city. Joining the hundreds of thousands of Montreal and area residents who will be on hand as spectators to this exciting event, there will be throngs of out-of-town visitors, including tourists, drivers and their teams, international press and VIPs. "Whenever a major event happens in Montreal like the Grand Prix, or the upcoming U2 concert, it is good for business," states Sandro Galasso, owner of Montreal Sigma Corporate Limousine Service (http://www.limosigma.com), a Montreal Limousine company that provides chauffeured executive car and airport limousine services. "For our company, business related to the Montreal Grand Prix starts the week before race weekend and ends the week after. We are kept extremely busy providing airport limo service, escorting race executives and driving VIPs, and race fans from their homes or hotels to the race venue," reports Galasso.

The Montreal Grand Prix is a prestigious international sports event that attracts more than 300 million television viewers from 144 countries. The race has a tremendous economic impact on the city. In 2009, the Formula One event was responsible for generating approximately $89 million in economic benefits, and the province of Quebec collected more than $10 million in additional tax revenues. The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal estimates that the Canadian Grand Prix results in 75,000 hotel stays in Montreal. Of the approximately 300,000 spectators attending this exciting race event, approximately 25 percent will be visitors from out of town who will spend money on accommodations, food, transportation and other services.
Formula 1 Grand Prix Du Canada takes place in Montreal on June 10, 11, and 12, 2011. It is the only Formula One race in North America and one of the most highly anticipated races on the Formula One calendar. Montreal's first Grand Prix was held in 1978, where Canadian driver and hometown hero Gilles Villeneuve became an international driving sensation winning his first championship race. The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is the island track where the race is held each year which now carries his name.
"The Canadian Grand Prix is a major event and a huge tourist attraction for Montreal," says Sandro Galasso. "It's a popular event that generates considerable economic benefits and provides the city with great international exposure. The Grand Prix, and the LG Crescent Street Grand Prix Festival - happening the same weekend, will draw hundreds of thousands of people into the city. Road closures, traffic restrictions and crowds will create traffic chaos, and public parking will not be available during race weekend. Event organizers, city officials and Montreal police are telling people to leave their cars at home. This, of course, means plenty of business for limousine services like ours. We will be working all weekend chauffeuring race fans around Montreal," adds Galasso.
