Photographic Safaris In Tanzania

Many people wish to access the delight of the hunter without blood and death. The heady thrill trophy hunting and of making an animal "mine", of having conquered it is now nearly available for example in the Selous Game Reserve of Tanzania, but photographic safaris have far more area over the country.

However, the action of the hunt - stealthily sneaking up to the animal, searching for the right angle, staying out of reach in case it should charge - is almost exactly the same as another way of "shooting" an animal. Yes, I am talking about photography.

A photograph of a wild animal in its natural habitat, taken with your own hands, is a precious memory. It conjures up images of the surroundings, and reminds you of the sounds, smells and textures of nature that you will not get anywhere in real life. The best thing? Your photograph is your personal achievement, a proof of your prowess, and a memory of your experience - just like a hunter's trophy, except that the animal is left alive.

Tanzania is full of national parks which offer multiple opportunities for safaris - photographic safaris among them. Photographic safaris are dedicated towards people who want to take pictures - the skill of the photographer is not important. Many photographic safari companies will appoint a photographer for every safari team, who can instruct photographers and help them create better snaps. Even otherwise experienced photographers may have slight problems adjusting to the changing light, complex textures and fleeting glimpses offered during safaris, so the aid of the photography instructor can be quite helpful - especially if you are short of time and need to pick up the ropes extremely fast.

The photographic safari lets you capture moments that are breathtaking in their grace and splendor as well as their rapidity and scale. Tanzania, being equatorially situated, offers many opportunities for aspiring photographers to capture some remarkable events in nature. The migration of elephants at Tarangire National Park in Tanzania, the migration of Wildebeest from the Kenyan Masai Mara National Reserve through the Serengeti National Park, the migration of birds as they move from one hemisphere to another... all these are events that may provide ample fodder for a rich nature photography portfolio.

Every photographer dreams of capturing certain dramatic moments that no one will have caught before. The sight of wildebeest taking care of zebra offspring, of a black-horned rhino and python lying peacefully next to each other, or of a pride of lions hemming in a buffalo... all these are the sights that passionate photographers are paid to spend hours staring through their camera lenses for.

Even if you are not visiting during migration season, there is always a lot of action going on in the wild. Macro photographs of blades of grass, insects or leaves can provide an interesting insight into things we never see with our naked eyes, while photographs of an open expanse of sky can provide a vista unlike any other. So sling your camera and tripod on your back, and embark on a photographic safari in Tanzania, to return with a set of memories that will become your pride and joy for as long as you live.
