The Advantages of Renting an Apartment for Extended Stay in Paris

Many people who find themselves in France for an extended period discover that Paris apartment rentals are not only cheaper for longer stays, but they also offer many amenities such as a kitchen or temporary post office box. While Paris is certainly known for its hotels, there are many property management companies which specifically target people staying for more than a few weeks but less than a few years. Some of these properties will even allow visitors to rent them on a week-by-week basis, enabling them to compete with many of the extended stay hotels in the city. Apartment rentals in Paris are thus an attractive and affordable option for those looking to conduct extended business or study in the area, or even those who just wish to vacation for an extended period.

The huge, sprawling nature of Paris has contributed to the construction of many thousands of flats throughout the entire metropolitan area. The integration of residency, industry and commercial exchange has put Parisians within walking distance of their jobs and shops for centuries, allowing for modern visitors to have their pick of apartments.

Almost any part of Paris will have some sort of property which is available for rent to vacationers and businessmen. Since almost every Parisian lives in an apartment instead of a house, there are always new rooms making themselves available. There is, of course, less availability in more heavily developed areas, but an effort to keep Paris from modernizing means that most parts of the city are not heavily developed and that ancient houses are still made available and affordable to short-term renters.

Visitors need only to prove to the landlord that they are sufficiently able to pay rent and that they are legally in the country in order to gain access to a rental property, although of course certain landlords may have their own restrictions. Those renting on a short-term basis tend to be charged more than their long-term counterparts, and may be asked to pay all of the rent up-front. However, renting an apartment is almost always cheaper than renting a hotel room of comparable luxury.

Rental properties in Paris are also known for their affordability. The large number of rental properties on the market at any one time, combined with government controls, keeps rental rates on Parisian apartments at quite reasonable levels. While some of the high-end luxury lodgings cost thousands of Euros per month, it is more typical to pay about six to seven hundred Euros per month in order to rent a good apartment. This is the equivalent of about a thousand dollars, and is in fact quite competitive with most major American cities.
