Many travelers build their touring plans around one thing. The hotels they can stay in . While accommodation is very important and hotels are certainly the most convenient, it is far from the best. Take it from a cheap traveller, but being poor has some advantages when you travel. Here I will look at some of them. 
Cheaper accommodation is obviously much cheaper than hotels. Bed and Breakfast, Guesthouses and self catering rooms are a few alternatives. Now while this may not be the best argument, I still always wonder why someone&nbsp; would travel for one week while they could travel for two or three weeks using cheaper accommodation. 
Again I may say that not all of us want to experience a country the way cheap travelers do. However, you miss out on a life changing experience. You can simply not come home and say you have been to India or Cambodia if you did it by staying in hotels and using taxis. India will only be a stamp in your book. Real life in India lies far away from clean , air con rooms. The heart of India, Cambodia, Egypt and Thailand do not use luxury cars to get where they want to be. Join them and see another country.&nbsp; 
Do yourself a favor and walk out of your hotel and go to the nearest railway station. Just sit there for awhile and you will see, hear and experience the people of the country. Sure you will meet some in the pub you visit but this is different.&nbsp; On the street you will find real people telling you real stories about life in their country. No hype, no pretending. 
If nothing I said makes sense to you it is because you have no experience to compare it with. But it will certainly be different and once you open your wallet to see another country you owe it to yourself to open your heart. You do not even have to reach out to the people. Just be available for them to reach out to you. I would like to say you will be pleasantly surprised. 
I mentioned only four reasons but when I think about my experiences in some of the poorest countries in the world, I think that on my top ten list of experiences will mostly be because of the above reasons.&nbsp; In India a man wanted to sell his eye, I befriended a real Guru. In Cambodia I took a picture of a girl whose mother wanted me to marry her. In Egypt I got locked up in an old burial chamber. Hotels for me? I&rsquo;ve been there so I can compare the two and I prefer travelling cheap and see more.
