Easter Break in Devon

Devon has long been one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK and it’s easy to see why. Devon has pretty much everything that a family or a couple could be looking for from a holiday in the UK, from golden sandy beaches to green lush countryside and quaint picturesque villages to bustling vibrant cities.
One of the most popular areas in Devon is the English Riviera. The Riviera comprises three towns set along 22 miles of stunning unspoilt coastline. The term English Riviera was first coined by Victorian holiday makers who linked the area to its Mediterranean French equivalent. The area still retains much of the Victorian style and splendor and famously still has its palm trees.
There are plenty of great beaches to be found along the South Devon coast around the Riviera area. Bigbury on Sea is a beautiful beach located just to the west of Torbay. The beach is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a popular family beach and great for windsurfing and kite surfing too. Broadsands beach at Paignton is in an idyllic rural setting while its gentle gradient makes it ideal for families or anyone wanting to distance themselves from amusement arcades. Meadfoot beach is a pretty shingle beach surrounded by Lincombe woods. The beach may be smaller than many but it is tucked away from the busy centre of Torquay.
Exeter is just to the west of the English Riviera and is the capital of Devon. The city is also the principle shopping center for the whole county. Many of the finest of the high street names can be found as well as many local boutique shops. You can also find some of the finest restaurants and cafes in the area here too with something catering for every taste. Exeter is a historic town also with a history spanning 2,000 years since roman times. Remains of its roman past can still be seen today and a trip to the museum to learn more about its fascinating history is well worth a visit. The city is also well known for its Medieval architecture with many fascinating old buildings still to be found throughout the perhaps the piece de resistance is the cities famous cathedral. If after a day of sightseeing and shopping you fancy a night on the town then your in luck as the city is home to many fine bars and night clubs and has one of the best live music scenes in the south west, in fact both Muse and Cold Play played some of their first ever gigs in the city.
For the children there are a number of great adventure parks throughout Devon that will delight those both young and old. And don’t forget that Devon has some of the best surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing and sailing not just in the UK but in the whole of Europe. With many schools to teach you everything you need to know about the sports there no excuse to not pick up a board and give it ago.
-- About the Author
This article was written on behalf of H & H Caravan Park Devon your English Riviera accommodation.
