Since everyone knows the way, and you plan on staying, what better place is there to stay than in a San Jose hotel? One of the first cities built by the Spanish conquest of the west coast, San Jose was founded a year after the founding of the United States, in 1777. While it was little more than a missionary stop dotting the coast of California, San Jose has emerged as a leading technological city in the so-called Silicon Valley.

This is a boon to residents and tourists alike, who are put off by the typically damp and foggy conditions the remainder of the Bay Area endures. 
 
Arriving at Mineta Airport, the aspiring tourist (or potential new resident) is sure to be struck not only by the brilliant sunshine, but by the preponderance of palm trees. Perhaps no other city has made this resilient tree as emblematic as San Jose -- expect possibly Los Angeles. Think of San Francisco and surely you will think of two things: the fog and the Golden Gate Bridge. 
 
Though it was an agricultural center and home to Del Monte Foods, San Jose has survived the mercurial economic changes following World War II to become a technological powerhouse. Indeed, San Jose was the birthplace of the hard drive, which revolutionized mainframe computing and made the modern desktop (and laptop) a possibility. Ever since, it has remained a mainstay of the Silicon Valley, especially with the emergence of such software giants as Adobe, HP, and IBM. 
 
The Bay Area suffers -- or enjoys, depending on your preferences -- a reputation for damp, foggy weather. But, San Jose alone stands out as a bright, shining example of a something different. While many tourists come to San Francisco, few stay. On the other hand, while many professionals come on business, many of the stay to live.
